What makes Ryzon’s road bike vests and gravel vests special?

Innovative materials: We use innovative materials that are lightweight, breathable, windproof and water-repellent . This means you stay dry and comfortable even in changeable weather conditions.

Perfect fit: Our vests are cut close to the body and have the typical cycling-specific shape, which is shorter at the front and longer at the back. They therefore offer optimal aerodynamics without constricting or creasing.

Functional details: Our cycling vests feature functional details such as reflectors and mesh panels for ventilation , which provide additional safety and comfort.

Small pack size: Our cycling vests can be folded so small that you can easily store them in your jersey pocket when you are warm enough.

Combinability: Ryzon vests can be perfectly combined with our short-sleeved or long-sleeved jerseys . This makes them particularly suitable for the transitional seasons.

FAQs Bicycle Vests

What is a cycling vest and what is it for?

A cycling vest is a sleeveless garment for cycling that protects the chest and back from wind, rain, and cold, while leaving the arms free for full range of motion and breathability. It is the ideal layering solution for changing conditions, cool mornings, or fast descents – and thanks to its compact pack size, it usually fits easily into a jersey pocket.

What's the difference between a cycling vest and a cycling jacket?

A cycling jacket has long sleeves and protects the entire upper body, including the arms – ideal in consistently cool or wet conditions. A cycling vest, on the other hand, leaves the arms free, is significantly lighter, more breathable, and more compact to store. For intense exertion or variable weather, the vest is usually the more efficient choice because it prevents overheating.

What is the difference between a wind vest and a thermal vest?

A wind vest (men / women) is ultralight, blocks wind, and folds down to the size of a fist – perfect for long descents and cool mornings. A thermal vest (men / women) has an insulating interior (e.g., fleece) and keeps you warm in cold temperatures without needing a full jacket.

At what temperature do you wear a cycling gilet?

As a rule of thumb: An unlined wind vest is worthwhile at approx. 12–18 °C or in changeable weather, a thermal vest is used at approx. 5–12 °C. Regardless of the temperature, the vest is also useful if long descents are ahead or rain is possible – it prevents cooling down after sweating on the ascent.

How tight should a cycling gilet be?

A cycling gilet should fit snugly against the body without constricting or hindering breathing. This prevents flapping in the wind, avoids cold spots, and maintains optimal aerodynamics. It's okay for it to feel a little tight when standing – it will fit perfectly in the typical riding position on the bike.

Are cycling vests waterproof or water-repellent?

Most cycling vests are water-repellent (DWR coating) and reliably protect against light showers, splash water, and damp weather. For continuous rain, however, a rain jacket is recommended (Men's / Women's), while a water-repellent wind or transitional vest is sufficient for changeable conditions.

What do you wear under a cycling vest?

Traditionally, the cycling jersey is worn under the cycling vest, wicking sweat away from the body. On cooler days, a long-sleeved functional base layer (Baselayer) complements the layering and provides additional warmth. Important: materials should be coordinated and breathable so that moisture is reliably wicked away.

How to wash and care for a cycling vest?

Cycling vests should be washed on a delicate cycle at 30 °C, inside out – without fabric softener, bleach, or tumble drying. Fabric softener attacks the water-repellent DWR coating and reduces breathability. If the waterproofing wears off (water no longer beads), it can be reactivated with a special functional detergent or waterproofing spray.
